What Should a Customer Hear When Paying by QR at Your Counter?

A short counter script, a clear rule on payment status and an escalation path keep in-person crypto QR sales smooth for cashiers and customers alike.

What Should a Customer Hear When Paying by QR at Your Counter?

What should the customer hear at the counter?

A crypto QR payment feels different from a card tap, so the cashier is also a guide. MiraclePay describes the in-person flow simply: the merchant creates a payment request, the customer scans it with their own wallet and sends the exact amount on the network shown.

Turn that into a short script. State the total, show the QR code, and ask the customer to check that the asset and network in their wallet match the screen. MiraclePay notes that the wallet must support the exact asset and network shown, so a customer whose wallet does not should pick another wallet or another payment method before sending anything.

Why wait for a confirmed status?

A customer holding up a phone that says the payment was sent is not the same as a confirmed sale. MiraclePay's QR page describes staff working from a visible confirmation state, and its POS page lists real-time payment status on screen as part of the counter flow.

Other providers draw the same line. BitPay's support documentation says its paid status is not a payment guarantee, and its terms warn that accepting a payment before it is complete can leave the merchant without settlement protection. Whatever tool you use, teach staff exactly which status names mean it is safe to hand over goods, and which do not.

What if the payment is not confirmed?

Give the team one rule: no confirmed status, no handover. Ask the customer to wait a moment, keep the items behind the counter, and avoid creating a second request for the same sale unless a manager approves it, because that could lead to a double payment.

If the status does not change, escalate to a supervisor and contact MiraclePay support instead of guessing. Note the order reference, since MiraclePay says the same reference follows the transaction into reporting, which makes later matching far easier.

How do you practise before opening?

Run short role-plays covering a normal sale, a wrong-network mistake and a stalled payment, with each cashier playing both roles. Also ask MiraclePay to confirm that your terminal fits the intended flow, because its POS page says hardware compatibility depends on your approved setup and that availability varies by market. Repeat the drill whenever you onboard new staff.
